my vision
I am selvita { ambient-experimental composer, producer, and poet }.
My work emerges from the intersection of electroacoustic sound design, spoken word poetry, and cinematic composition. My debut EP La Sustancia Materna is the fullest expression of my compositional practice: four tracks in which poem and production are generated as one cognitive act, unified by a thread of vivid imagery that moves through both the poetic language and the sonic architecture of the mix.
This compositional practice is also the subject of my doctoral research at the Université de Montréal, Faculty of Music, where I am pursuing a PhD in Composition and Sound Creation. My proposed research will investigate how ambient-experimental composition { through the blurring of genre, voice, and sound design } creates conditions for self-authorship and creative self-efficacy for women composers working outside dominant musical traditions.
At the heart of this doctoral work will be the development of a larger body of original compositions that extend and deepen this methodology { building toward large-scale electroacoustic and orchestral works that move beyond the EP format into immersive, live performances }.
Alongside the compositional and research work, I aspire to develop a series of curated ambient deep listening sessions where the music of la sustancia materna is not only shared, but listeners are also guided through meditative journeys, where they are encouraged to experience sound with deeper presence and embodied awareness. These somatic music inspired sessions are an extension of the research itself: spaces where the methodology can go beyond it’s theoretical foundations, becoming community centered and experientially influenced.
I came to this work of somatic music through years of refining my skills in different rooms: recording studios, classrooms, expressive arts therapy circles. I’ve been able to study and be mentored by some of the most well-respected industry leaders in production, mix engineering, and film scoring at Berklee College of Music during my Masters degree program in Interdisciplinary Studies. In my professional work, I spent four years of facilitating healing through music and somatic movement, where mentoring over 150 women gave me the conviction that healing through music and connection to spirit is my legacy and my life's work.

experience the silence
The closing track off the forthcoming La Sustancia Materna EP release, The Silence, birthed the entire concept for this sonic project. The film accompaniment was performed by and co-directed by me, selvita. The soundtrack ‘The Silence’ was composed, produced, and mixed by me as well.

{ understory / limerence }
deconstructive glitchy dub kick, layered drone, and deep sub-bass anchor a bed of ethereal kalimba tones: production that fragments and reassembles itself the way memory does.
{ amatury / reservoir }
a slow heartbeat pulse holds the center while the mix dissolves around it: ethereal bells, intimate vocals, and immersive ambient textures that blur the threshold between presence and dissolution.
{ la sustancia materna }
expansive stereo-wide drone tones and cold dystopian textures carry the title track: a cinematic, emotionally stark soundscape that sits in deliberate contrast to the raw vulnerability of the spoken word.
{ the silence }
live cello and violin recorded with session musicians bring the EP to a close: orchestrally inspired strings woven into ambient drones and experimental textural layers.
